Challenges
In 2014, Dialog decided to expand its footprint by upsizing its existing design centers and adding a new location. However, the highly specialized Analog and Mixed Signal engineering skills that Dialog needed to develop its business meant many of the locations lacked sufficient talent pools.
Dialog turned to its talent acquisition partner, Cielo, for support mapping talent and attracting new talent to increase product development engineering capability across its existing sites. Additionally, Cielo was tasked with providing insight into the best global locations for a new facility so that new products could be successfully developed and brought to market.
Solutions
Cielo’s Talent Intelligence experts created a project plan for mapping talent that would be available to Dialog in selected locations in Europe and the U.S. that matched the initial assessment criteria. Eleven potential locations underwent a more rigorous SWOT analysis, resulting in a shortlist of five locations selected for further due diligence. In addition to mapping talent and conducting research on the available talent pool and competitor presence, the location’s infrastructure, transport, and University links were also considered.
The Cielo team also carried out on-site visits to develop a deep understanding of the business and talent landscape. From our final shortlist of three locations, the clear frontrunner was chosen as the home for Dialog’s new facility.
Results
Less than six months after the kick-off date, a team of 25 highly specialized product development engineers began work at the new site, increasing Dialog’s global footprint and successfully upsizing its design capability.
The new site is now home to more than 60 engineers with plans to double in size again by 2018. Cielo’s Lead on the project was awarded Dialog’s annual HR Service Excellence award, becoming the first ever non-Dialog employee to receive this recognition.
